(Oceanside, Oregon) – Once again, the north Oregon coast group Friends of Netarts Bay / WEBS comes up with some new means to have adventures in the Netarts / Oceanside area. At one event you can check out loads of birds, and another later in September gives you an opportunity to give back by helping to clean up the beaches between the two villages.

On September 20 comes Birds of Tillamook County: Walk and Talk with Michael Krall.

On Saturday, September 20, WEBS Board President Michael Krall will lead “Birds of Tillamook County: Walk and Talk,” a birding event that begins with an optional two-hour walk along inland trails and coastal shores. Tag along and you will observe local bird species at a relaxed pace before gathering at the Netarts Community Club for an indoor presentation.

Krall, who is a longtime birder and photographer, will share images, tips, and insights into the region’s diverse habitats. His passion for birding began with a Golden Eagle banding in eighth grade and has since led him to photograph all 22 woodpecker species found in North America. He is currently working on a collection of warbler species, noting, “So many birds, so little time.”

“We understand everyone learns and experiences the outdoors differently, and we strive to support everyone who is interested in attending our events,” organizers said. “Please contact us in advance so we can do our best to accommodate your accessibility needs.”

Registration is required and available at netartsbaywebs.org/events.

The following weekend, on Saturday, September 27, WEBS and the Oceanside Action Partnership will host a beach cleanup in celebration of National Public Lands Day. It's the tail end of the big Oregon Coast Beach Cleanup week, with most events hosted by SOLVE. But this one comes out of the Three Capes Loop.

From 9:00 a.m. to noon, volunteers will help remove debris from the shoreline between Oceanside and Netarts. Check-in tables will be located at The Schooner Restaurant and the upper parking lot at Oceanside Beach. At 9:30 a.m., The Schooner will also host a marine debris survey demonstration, offering insight into how beach debris is monitored year-round and how volunteers can contribute.

“Let’s take this opportunity to clean up the beach with friends or family, or expand your community by teaming up with fellow volunteers,” says Marina Dreeben, WEBS stewardship coordinator.

Participants are asked to bring reusable buckets to reduce waste, though extra buckets will be available. Following the cleanup, volunteers will be treated to grilled oysters from Pearl Point Oyster as a thank-you for their efforts.

“And be sure to stick around after the cleanup for a special treat just for volunteers,” organizers said. “The Schooner will be grilling up fresh oysters from here in Netarts to thank you for keeping our coastal ecosystems clean.”

Organizers remind participants to stay safe by avoiding logs in the surf, keeping a safe distance from marine mammals, and remaining alert to ocean conditions. Hazardous materials should be reported to staff.

Advance registration is encouraged but not required. More information is available at netartsbaywebs.org/events.
