(Seaside, Oregon) – That notorious on Highway 26 to the Oregon coast is not only back in a new way but it appears to have multiplied. Travelers along the route have had the pleasure of dealing with four bumps, now creating what one north coast resident called a “wavy road.” (All photos and video Angi D Wildt Gallery)
In fact, it was bad enough it knocked over the camera of one videographer filming it while driving.
Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) says the trouble spot is still located around milepost 13, and this time is the result of an inverted landslide - an area of unstable ground that continues to push upward and create multiple humps in the pavement.
Trouble on this began again recently, and Angi Wildt of Angi D Wildt Gallery in Astoria sent some photos on Christmas to Oregon Coast Beach Connection of another speed limit being posted. This time it's become a bit comical: crews placed an object over the “2” to cover it up and change it from 25 to a “5 mph” limit.
Wildt also obtained some video of the bump area – which on its own became rather humorous. Showing the bumps worse as you head east, her westward video footage sees the camera get jostled in the bump and fall over. Not just once – but twice.
Recent heavy rain has triggered four new bumps, according to ODOT. Drivers have been sending in videos showing cars bouncing over the uneven surface, particularly in the eastbound lanes.

Warning signs now line the highway, but locals report that some motorists continue to hit the bumps at unsafe speeds. Police say the location has seen numerous crashes since ODOT began tracking the issue in 2022.
Wildt described it as more of a series of tight speed bumps.
“I was pretty surprised to see the 2 covered up and that the speed had been reduced to 5 mph,” she told Oregon Coast Beach Connection. “There were some cars bouncing across at higher speeds. The road is wavy now. The side heading east feels worse than than the side heading west.”

Other witnesses have reported some cars not just catching air but landing at different angles.
Last year, the agency spent roughly $300,000 installing a drain pipe in an effort to relieve water pressure beneath the roadway. Tens of thousands more have been spent this year on labor as crews attempt to keep the surface drivable.
ODOT said the water running through soil has to go somewhere, and in this case it's causing more of a landslide. Multiple sections are now on the move and crews are having a difficult time keeping that shifting problem repaired.
ODOT is urging motorists to monitor TripCheck during storms and consider alternate routes when possible. See Oregon Coast and Coast Range Traffic Conditions
