(Seaside, Oregon) – One of the north Oregon coast's most famous landmarks was saved from a devastating fire Tuesday. (SFR images)
Seaside Fire & Rescue (SFR) knocked down a small vegetation fire Tuesday morning which could've become much more severe, especially in these dry conditions. Smoke was reported on a portion of the headland and 911 was alerted.
“As crews responded, a visible smoke column could be seen, prompting the incident to be upgraded to a 1st Alarm Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) response,” SFR said.
Firefighters reached the blaze less than a quarter-mile up the trail and found a 10-by-10-foot patch of brush burning in heavy vegetation. They quickly contained and extinguished the fire, then spent extended time on mop-up to make sure no hot spots remained.
No homes or structures were damaged. The cause is still under investigation.
Video of the incident also shows responders rescuing a dog from the situation.
Units on the call included 3164 (chief officer), 3123 (engine), 3185 (UTV), 3156 (rescue) and 3161 (utility). The agency thanked Cannon Beach Fire District, Gearhart Fire Department, the Oregon Department of Forestry, Seaside Police and Oregon State Police for assisting.

Officials noted that wildland responses rely on coordinated efforts and strong partnerships.

“With warm, dry conditions continuing along the Oregon coast, we encourage everyone to use caution while enjoying our trails and outdoor spaces,” SFR said. “If you see smoke or fire, report it immediately by calling 911. Early reporting can make all the difference in preventing a small fire from becoming a large one.”
