(Manzanita, Oregon) – More accessibility features are coming to Oregon coast towns, allowing greater mobility on the region's beaches.
Travel Oregon has awarded nearly $6.2 million in funding to 65 innovative projects statewide as part of its 2024–25 Competitive Grants Program. This year's grants aim to improve access and inclusivity for visitors who may have faced barriers to exploring Oregon’s destinations.
Several projects on the Tillamook Coast received funding to enhance mobility and accessibility along the region’s popular recreational corridors.
David's Chair Outdoor Mobility Systems was awarded $98,900 to expand its services to Seaside, Rockaway Beach, Pacific City, and Coos Bay. The funds will support the purchase of five all-terrain track chairs and a trailer, enabling greater access for individuals with mobility challenges.

There are a variety of these all-terrain track chairs coming to these areas. They allow all kinds of movement on rough, uneven landscapes, including some rocky areas that are found on the Oregon coast.
“Seaside will get a second David’s Chair,” said Joshua Heineman, Director of Tourism Marketing with the City of Seaside. “The demand is there so it’ll be excellent to get more capacity.”
According to the David's Chair organization, Coos Bay will get a new chair to replace the existing one which is not ideal for use on the beach.

In the Tillamook County area, tourism director Nan Devlin said these funds will replace the chair in Rockaway Beach and add a second one in Pacific City.
“That will give Tillamook County a total of five David’s Chairs: Manzanita, Rockaway, Happy Camp and Pacific City,” Devlin told Oregon Coast Beach Connection. “Plus nine big tire beach wheelchairs: 2 in Manzanita, Nehalem Bay State Park, 2 in Rockaway Beach, Garibaldi, Cape Lookout State Park and 2 in Pacific City.”
Gold Beach, Florence, Newport and Lincoln City also added these chairs to lend in recent years. See https://davidschair.org.
Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad received $66,500 to install Mobilift TX wheelchair lifts at each of its departure depots. The grant also covers storage sheds and concrete pads, creating a more accessible experience for train passengers with mobility limitations.
Pacific City Pathways, doing business as Tillamook Off-Road Trail Alliance, secured $150,000 to design and build a one-mile inclusive mountain bike flow trail within the Buzzard Butte Trail Network. The trail will accommodate adaptive mountain bikes and ensure riders of all abilities can participate.
Tillamook County Parks was also awarded $150,000 to support engineering and design work at the Barview Jetty campground. Planned improvements include ADA-compliant infrastructure, multilingual signage, and redesigned traffic flow to better serve diverse park users.
