Lincoln City's Summer Kite Festival returns to the central Oregon coast, taking to the skies for its 40th year – cause enough for a party that's as expansive as the beach. This time around is two full days of family-friendly activities and festivities, happening June 21 - 22 at the D River State Recreation Site. The festival brings in thousands each time to enjoy stunning aerial displays by professional fliers from around the world.
Each day, the festival runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., filling the sky with enthralling performances by teams, duos, and solo fliers. Visitors can marvel at massive show kites, including colorful sea creatures like breaching whales soaring against the ocean backdrop.
“The Lincoln City Summer Kite Festival is a treasured tradition that embodies the joy of summer at the Oregon Coast,” said Kim Cooper Findling, director of Explore Lincoln City. “Guests can expect a weekend of playful skies, ocean breezes, and a welcoming atmosphere that keeps people returning year after year. The beach comes alive with soaring creations, from intricate designs to larger-than-life characters, all flown by some of the world's best kite fliers.”

Beyond the high-flying displays, the festival offers hands-on fun for all ages. Families can enjoy free kite-making workshops hosted by Family Promise of Lincoln County, while Pixie Fest carnival games provide entertainment with proceeds benefiting the Lincoln City Kiwanis Club (a nod to the famed Oregon coast attraction of old). Attendees can also stroll through the wind garden and admire art kite displays along the sand.
Local flavors will be available from Kristi’s Food Truck, run by members of the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians. The menu features hot dogs, burgers, Indian tacos, and more.
