(Astoria, Oregon) – Traffic between the Washington coast and Oregon side will be impacted in the wee hours of the night this week.
The north Oregon coast's famed Astoria–Megler Bridge will close overnight Thursday, Feb. 19, while crews remove the old toll booth structure on the Oregon-side on-ramp after inspectors identified a potential safety concern.
A recent inspection found damage to the wooden roof of the former toll facility, and engineers warned it could collapse during severe weather. ODOT officials say the bridge itself remains safe for travel; the emergency work focuses only on the deteriorating overhead structure. Oregon Coast Virtual Tour: Astoria-Megler Bridge
The full closure runs from 9 p.m. Thursday to 6 a.m. Friday, with no practical detour available. Flaggers will be posted at both ends of the bridge, and emergency vehicles will be allowed through. Travelers should plan ahead, expect construction noise, and avoid crossing during the overnight shutdown if possible.
The bridge opened in 1966 and originally charged $1.50 per vehicle. Tolling ended in 1993 once construction costs were paid, and the booths were removed, though the overhead frame remained.

Updates will be available at TripCheck.com – or the Oregon Coast Highway 101 / Coast Range Traffic page.
