S. Oregon Coast March Events: Coos Bay's Clambake, History Walks, Farmers Market, Dance the Bay

(Coos Bay, Oregon) – A new season is about to spring forth along the coastline, and on the southern edges of Oregon beaches one town is keeping the heat up. Coos Bay kicks up its heals in March with a whole bevy of events that include dance, food, music, history walks – and then there's that big clambake, which actually isn't about food but rather a jazz thing. Coos History Museum: Hard Time in Paradise

Join the south Oregon coast's Coos History Museum (CHM) on March 4, 2025, for a special edition of the First Tuesday Talk program titled “Hard Times in Paradise: A Retrospective,” featuring William Robbins, the author of “Hard Times in Paradise.” Taking place from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., this event will mark 37 years since the first edition of the book and 19 years since the second. Robbins will revisit stories that shaped the region. The program will be hosted both in-person at the museum and on Zoom.

Admission is $7 for non-member adults, $3 for youth, $5 for Zoom attendees regardless of membership, and free for CHM members attending in person. The doors open at 5:30 p.m. for an opportunity to explore the museum. Pre-registration is encouraged, and reservations can be made online, by phone at 541-756-6320, or in person at the museum’s front desk. Walk-ins are welcome for all Tuesday Talk programs. Mar 13 - Mar 16. South Coast Clambake Music Festival 2025


From March 13 to March 16, 2025, don your dancing shoes for the South Coast Clambake Music Festival - a musical extravaganza featuring genres ranging from traditional jazz to 50's rock, including swing, doo-wop, blues, and big band. This festival is a favorite among dancers and music enthusiasts up and down the West Coast.

Fun fact: "Clambake" is an old musical term for a jam session and it's not about the food. The event will be held at the luxurious Mill Casino Hotel in North Bend on Oregon’s Adventure Coast, which hosts four venues under one roof, each equipped with top-notch sound systems, dance floors, and bars. Walk In Her Shoes Guided Tours of Coos Bay

The Coos History Museum will host its annual Women’s History Month program on March 22, 2025 from 11 AM - 3 PM. This year’s theme is Walk in Her Shoes, featuring hourly historic walking tours, tea and refreshments, and a celebration of women’s history. A pdf and docx version of this release are attached, as well as a png flyer.

Walk in her shoes with a guided walking tour of Front Street and downtown Coos Bay, bringing to life the stories of the remarkable women who shaped local history. Back at the museum, enjoy refreshments, explore the exhibits, and celebrate women’s history.

This program is hosted in person at the Coos History Museum. Tickets are $20 for members, $25 for nonmembers, and $10 for youth, and is open to all. Ticket includes a guided walking tour, museum admission, and tea and refreshments. Doors open at 11 am. Guided tours leave from the museum every hour on the hour from 11 am to 2 pm, rain or shine. March 29. Dance on the Bay in Coos Bay, 2025

On March 29, 2025, join the Dance on the Bay event in North Bend for a day of folk dance workshops, led by Gigi Jensen from Spokane and Roo Lester from Chicago. Jensen will teach Latin American folk dances, while Lester will cover dances from the Basque provinces of Spain, as well as some from Scandinavia and other countries.

In addition to the dance workshops, the event will include an international potluck lunch and a cultural presentation on the Basques by Lester.

An all-day ticket, which includes morning workshops, lunch, afternoon workshops, and the evening dance party, is available for $40. Tickets to individual morning or afternoon workshops and the evening party can be purchased for $15 each.
