Lincoln County Sheriff's Office (LCSO) just sent out notice the landslide area is settling today and starting to destabilize the area around it.

They've also sent out instructions on what to do if you find any personal belongings, and one family in particular is looking for a lost item.

UPDATED 8 A.M.: Large areas of north coast with power outages. Residents along Hwy 229 report much tree debris near slide area.

“The impacted area remains in a LEVEL THREE – GO NOW evacuation order,” said LCSO. “Due to the dangerous nature of the situation and unstable ground, community members are asked to stay out of the impacted area.”

The go-now order is for around ten addresses on Highway 229, extending for about a mile on either side of the slide, LCSO told Oregon Coast Beach Connection. It is not a wide area affected by the order.

“Accessing these areas put yourself and first responders at risk. Heavy rains are expected to worsen conditions and carry additional risk,” the agency said.

The massive slide occurred last week after rain and flooding hit the area, loosening the soil and damaging two homes.

Local and state agencies are closely monitoring the slide and preparing emergency response plans as the situation develops. Experts say the full impact cannot be assessed until the ground stabilizes.

Debris from the landslide has entered the Siletz River and is washing up along riverbanks, Siletz Bay, and nearby beaches. Officials caution residents against climbing on or disturbing debris, which may be unstable or hazardous. With two homes lost, personal belongings may also begin to appear along the shoreline.

Sheriff Shanks acknowledged the community’s desire to help, noting, “Our community members are eager to help comfort those that have lost their homes and are motivated to clean up some of the debris.”

During this period of uncertainty with the landslide and expected weather, it is crucial community members remain safe, LCSO said.

“We share empathy for those affected and ask that any found personal items or items of value be reported to local law enforcement so we can work on returning meaningful possessions to our community members.” Sheriff Shanks said.

Items with identification or personal value should be reported through non-emergency lines: Lincoln City Police Department at 541-994-3636 or the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office at 541-265-0777.

One particular item of sentimental value is being sought. Jenny Nelson, a resident of the area, said one of those families who lost their home is looking for a piece of door trim that has their grandchildren’s height on it. Those wandering the area riverbanks or Lincoln City beaches should contact Jenny if they find that piece: Siletz2025flood@yahoo.com.

Flood waters have receded in the area, Nelson told Oregon Coast Beach Connection, but they're expected to rise again with this week's rainstorm.

Officials confirm there are currently no threats to public drinking water systems downstream from the slide along Highway 229. Oregon Drinking Water Services, through the Oregon Health Authority, continues to monitor water safety. Residents with domestic wells who suspect contamination are advised to follow OHA’s shock chlorination guidance at www.oregon.gov/oha/ph/healthyenvironments/ drinkingwater/operations/ pages/shockchlorination.aspx
