(Portland, Oregon) – A variety of wintry issues are hitting rural Oregon areas, with the National Weather Service putting warnings or advisories of snow or high winds in the mountains and eastern or southern Oregon. One area south of Portland will still be seeing a little flooding, but the good news for many is ski season is beginning in a a good number of runs. (Above: snow in hills near Eugene / Oregon Coast Beach Connection)
There's also some possibility Christmas may be extremely windy around Portland and the valley, but that is still not clear for forecasters.
In general, however, there's not a lot that will interfere with holiday travel throughout the state.
Along the Oregon coast, it's nothing remarkable or surprising: just a fair amount of rain and wind, with periodic gusts up to 40 mph.
Ocean waves out there will be on the somewhat large side, making a decent show for rocky areas like Yachats, Bandon or Depoe Bay, but not enough to cause the big stuff at Coos Bay's Shore Acres. Larger waves come in midweek or by Tuesday.
“Seas are also expected to build towards 11-14 ft.,” the NWS said. Oregon Coast Weather

Winter Weather Advisory - Southern Oregon Cascades and Siskiyou Mountains: A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 10 a.m. Tuesday through 10 a.m. Wednesday as a high-impact winter storm brings two rounds of heavy snowfall to Siskiyou County, mainly above 4,500 feet. Snow levels will fluctuate throughout the event. Winds over exposed terrain may gust up to 60 mph, and wet snow is expected above 5,500 feet in the Cascades and Siskiyou Mountains, including Crater Lake and Mt. Ashland Ski Park. Snowfall probability information is available at weather.gov/mfr/winter.

Special Weather Statement - Gusty Winds Wednesday: The National Weather Service in Pendleton has issued a Special Weather Statement for early Wednesday, warning of southeast winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 30 to 35 mph between 1 a.m. and 4 p.m. Forecasters estimate a 60–80 percent chance of these conditions.
