True Second Summer for South Coast Around 80, More Sun / Fun for Much of Oregon

(Oregon Coast) – A couple of summer-like days will make a return to much of inland Oregon, but the south coast will truly get the Second Summer vibe going for about a week. The Brookings / Gold Beach areas get a nice dose of sunshine and even more than 80 degrees nearing the weekend, while the tropical temps last through Wednesday. As you head northward from Bandon through Florence, conditions stick into the upper 70s but then get a little cooler from Tillamook County on up – plus the fun-in-the-sun doesn't last quite as long. The National Weather Service (NWS) is showing a good run of nice temps on the coast, though from the south central coast northward that starts to wind down later on Saturday into Sunday.

Southern Oregon will be warmer than the northern half, of course. But the Chetco Effect really kicks in south of Port Orford.

“Thursday through early next week will be dry with afternoon temperatures trending warmer for the interior,” the NWS in Medford said. “The thermal trough will remain in place along the south Oregon coast and the pattern is one where we could see afternoon temperatures at Brookings get into the lower to mid 70s Thursday, then into the lower to mid 80s, possibly the upper 80s Friday through the start of next week. Tuesday, the thermal trough will build north and weaken some allowing the flow to become weak onshore at Brookings, therefore it should be cooler.”

Portland hits the 70s for a few days this week and remains mostly sunny, but that starts to turn on Monday. Areas like Medford down south are similar to that as well, though Tuesday sees a big uptick in temps near 90 for some parts.

It's the southern Oregon coast that will be the most fun, however, given all that surf and sand combined with warm conditions.

Brookings / Gold Beach are near 80 today, then at least 84 on Friday, with Saturday and Sunday staying sunny and near 80. Monday may hit at least the mid 80s. Tuesday and Wednesday see the real cooldown into the 70s.

From Port Orford, Coos Bay, Reedsport, Yachats and Newport, conditions are similar but more in the 70s throughout the week. On Sunday, however, things turn cloudy with a chance of showers but the sun and 70s return on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Cannon Beach

From Pacific City and Manzanita into Cannon Beach and Seaside the forecast is more for the low 70s or 60s and a definite turn towards cloudy and possible rain on Sunday. On Tuesday, weather perks back up again with more sun and temps in the low 70s.

Sunday is the fall equinox on the Oregon coast and Washington coast.
