Also, the region hits another landmark with the last sunset after 8:30 p.m.

It's going to be quite the roller coaster ride, however. Today a fair amount of rain began. The National Weather Service (NWS) said there “will be potentially significant mid-summer rainfall amounts” through Wednesday.

Dry weather returns rather quickly by Thursday night and thus begins a warming trend that really ramps up early in the week.

“Afternoon highs are likely (75-95% chance) to exceed 90 degrees across interior valleys both Sunday and Monday,” the NWS said. “Confidence remains high that temperatures will peak on Monday, when some locations may see their first triple-digit temperature of the year, with 35-75% chances of reaching 100 degrees along the Willamette Valley.”

Even the Oregon coastline gets a bit warmer than usual.

After some rain and clouds on Wednesday, skies will clear with mostly sunny conditions and steadily rising temperatures through early next week. Daytime highs will climb from the mid 70s Thursday to the mid 90s by Sunday and Monday. Much of the Willamette Valley or Portland area will be near or at 100. Nights will be mostly clear, with lows in the mid 50s to mid 60s.

North and Central Oregon Coast (Seaside, Cannon Beach, Pacific City, Lincoln City, Newport, Florence)

Skies will trend sunnier from Thursday onward, with daytime highs gradually warming from the mid 60s to mid 70s by Sunday and Monday. Nights will be partly cloudy to mostly clear, with lows in the low to upper 50s.

Partly to mostly sunny skies will prevail through Tuesday, with daytime highs in the mid to upper 60s, gradually warming to around 71 by Monday. Patchy morning fog and slight chances of showers may linger through Thursday, followed by clearer and calmer conditions. Overnight lows will stay mild, mostly in the mid to upper 50s.

South Oregon Coast (Brookings, Gold Beach)

Expect mostly sunny skies and mild daytime highs ranging from the mid 70s to low 80s through Tuesday, approaching 100 by Friday. Breezy conditions will persist from Thursday through Saturday, with gusts up to 34 mph. Nights will be mostly clear with lows in the mid 50s to low 60s. Saturday will reach around 100 and Sunday near 90.

Southern Oregon (Medford, Ashland)

A stretch of sunny and increasingly hot weather is expected through early next week, with daytime highs climbing from the upper 80s on Thursday to over 100 degrees by Sunday and peaking near 106 on Monday. Skies will remain mostly clear throughout, with mild overnight lows in the 50s and 60s.

Shorter Days

Now, days are also getting shorter. Today – Wednesday – is the last sunset after 8:30 p.m. in the Portland Metro area and Willamette Valley.

Not all parts of the Pacific Northwest experience this on the same day, however. Seattle sees its last sunset after 8:30 p.m. on August 9 (Saturday), Coos Bay will see this tomorrow (Thursday), and on Sunday it's the north Oregon coast – including Seaside, Cannon Beach, etc.
