(Garibaldi, Oregon) - Miami Foley Road, a vital route for Oregon coast residents, will be fully closed on Monday, August 12, as crews from the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) install beams for two new bridges at Crystal Creek and Dry Creek.
To safely accommodate the arrival of a large crane and heavy equipment, the road will be closed from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. between the Crystal Creek and Dry Creek crossings. Drivers will be detoured via U.S. Highway 101 during the closure.
Construction crews will be active throughout the day, and travelers should expect noise and delays. ODOT plans to reopen a single lane of Miami Foley Road by late afternoon, with a temporary traffic signal in place to guide alternating traffic.
“We plan to reopen a single lane of Miami Foley Road by 4 p.m. the same day,” ODOT said.

After August 12, work will continue during daytime hours. The road will remain open to one lane of traffic, controlled by a signal. Drivers should anticipate ongoing construction noise, delays, and an additional full-day closure at Crystal Creek later this year.
The new bridges are being built to replace aging culverts, which were in poor condition. In 2023, a storm washed out the Crystal Creek culvert, prompting emergency repairs and a full road closure. The permanent replacements are designed to improve storm resilience and support native fish migration through the area.

Unlike traditional bridge projects that often require long-term closures, ODOT is constructing each bridge one lane at a time to reduce traffic impacts. This phased approach allows vehicles to pass through the work zone for most of the construction period.
