(Lincoln City, Oregon) - Lincoln City’s beloved Fall Kite Festival returns to the Oregon coast soon – and this time with something new. There's even more glass floats invovled.
The bulk of it happens on September 20 and 21, 2025, bringing two days of high-flying color and coastal celebration to the beach at the D River State Recreation Site. A cherished tradition for families and kite enthusiasts alike, the festival runs from 10 AM to 4 PM each day and promises a vibrant mix of performances, hands-on activities, and sky-filling spectacles.
The weekend kicks off with a special new addition: Night Flight, held Friday evening, September 19, from 7 to 9 PM. This inaugural event invites visitors to witness illuminated kites dancing across the night sky in a dazzling, family-friendly display. Like those mysterious bioluminescent phytoplankton that have become so riveting in recent years, you'll see things that glow flying above you now.

The show takes place on the beach at D River Wayside, with free shuttle service available from the Lincoln City Community Center and Lincoln City Outlets between 6:30 and 9:30 PM.
Saturday and Sunday bring a full slate of daytime festivities. Each morning begins with announcements and an opening performance at 10 AM. From 10 AM to 2 PM, families can take part in a free kite-making workshop, with donations supporting Family Promise of Lincoln County. Throughout both days, featured fliers will perform from 10 AM to 4 PM, showcasing their skills and creativity with kites of all shapes and sizes.

Sunday includes a special Kite Flier Memorial at 11 AM, honoring those who have contributed to the kite-flying community. At 12:30 PM, the Mega Fly event invites all fliers to take the field together in a breathtaking group performance. From 1:30 to 4 PM, featured fliers continue their demonstrations, and between 2 and 3 PM, visitors can enjoy guided tours of the Big Kite Field. The festival officially closes at 4 PM on Sunday.
Once again there's a nod to the Oregon coast's legendary PIxieland. All weekend long, guests can explore the Wind Garden, enjoy Pixie Fest carnival games benefiting the Kiwanis Club of Lincoln City, and marvel at the massive show kites and art kite displays that fill the sky. Kristi’s Food Truck will be onsite serving hot dogs, burgers, Indian tacos, and other festival favorites.

Parking is available at the Lincoln City Community Center and Lincoln City Outlets, with free shuttle service running continuously from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM on Saturday and Sunday. Leashed dogs are welcome on the beach, and visitors are encouraged to help keep the area clean while enjoying the scenic coastline.
Please note that all times are approximate and subject to change due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
Besides all this high-flying fun, Lincoln City will drop 10 extra glass floats during the Fall Kite Festival.
“Floats can be found above the high tide line and below the beach embankment. They are placed on the beach during daylight hours only. If you find it, you get to keep it,” said Explore Lincoln City.
