The 90s are coming to most of Oregon and about half of Washington, but the National Weather Service (NWS) has downgraded some of its earlier heat warnings to heat advisories for Sunday through Monday. However, they've also expanded the reach of the advisories to now include all of the Oregon and Washington coastline.

The harshest temperatures are coming to the Portland-Vancouver metro area and parts of the Columbia Gorge, while areas north and east of Seattle and east of the Oregon Cascades won't see much that's extraordinary. The metro area has the extreme heat warning, while the rest are in advisories of one kind or another.

"An Extreme Heat Warning & Heat Advisory have been issued from Sunday, June 14th through Tuesday, June 16th,” the NWS said. “Update: Heat Advisory now includes the coast on Sunday, June 14th. Daytime temperatures from 92°F to 100°F with overnight lows of 63°F to 67°F are expected to impact the majority of the Willamette Valley from Sunday, June 14th through Tuesday June 16th, 2026. The Extreme Heat Warning is for the Greater Portland-Vancouver Metro, Western Columbia River Gorge, and Chehalem Mountains.”

Heat advisories are now for all locations except for the Cascades, the Greater Portland-Vancouver, and Western Columbia River Gorge.

The NWS said now is the time to start preparing.

“ Have sunscreen & light-colored, loose-fitted clothing Avoid strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day if possible Find locations with air conditioning Beware of cold water shock: wear a life jacket when swimming in local rivers and lakes.”

For Portland-Vancouver

Forecasters expect dangerously hot temperatures between 95 and 100 degrees across the Portland Metro Lowlands, the Inner and East Portland Metro, the Inner Vancouver Metro, East Clark County Lowlands and the western Columbia River Gorge. Officials warn that the risk of heat-related illness will rise significantly during the multi-day event.

The hottest days are expected Sunday and Monday, with only a slight cooldown Tuesday. Overnight temperatures will stay unusually warm, holding in the low to mid-60s and limiting relief. The NWS said there is a 15 to 30 percent chance that some areas will remain above 70 degrees Sunday night into Monday morning, with a smaller chance of the same Monday night into Tuesday. Highs may reach 100 degrees or more on Monday, with a 40 to 60 percent probability.
