Fatal Crash on Highway 18 This Weekend Near Oregon Coast Range

(Newberg, Oregon) - Oregon State Police are investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred Saturday afternoon towards the Oregon Coast Range - on Highway 18 near milepost 58 in Yamhill County.

Troopers were called to the scene at 2:06 p.m. after a westbound silver Honda Civic failed to negotiate a turn near Newberg, crossed into the eastbound lane and struck a white International commercial truck head-on. It resulted in the death of a Salem man and the injuries of another.

“The operator of the Honda (Hall) was pronounced deceased at the scene,” OSP said. “Honda passenger Isaiah Jacob Aas (18) of Salem was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries.”

The truck driver, Robert Emmanuel Hunter, 43, of Portland, was not injured and remained on scene, cooperating with investigators.

Highway 18 to and from the Oregon coast was closed or restricted for about five hours while OSP conducted the on-scene investigation.
