On the morning of May 21, 2026, officers were notified that the injured deer had been spotted within the city limits. OSP troopers, the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, and the Burns Police Department responded.

“The deer was tranquilized and an arrow removed from the animal's head,” the agency said. “The deer was subsequently euthanized for humane reasons. It is believed the deer was shot somewhere in or near the city limits of Burns, though the exact time of the incident is unknown.”

Anyone with information is urged to call the Turn In Poachers hotline at 1-800-452-7888 or *OSP (*677) from a mobile phone. Reference case number SP26163743. Tips may be submitted anonymously.

Oregon State Police Fish and Wildlife Division (OSPFWD) said there is an ongoing effort to seek justice for poaching.
