(Cannon Beach, Oregon) – Recent storms have taken out parts of a favorite beach on the north Oregon coast, and now Hug Point State Recreation Site is closed indefinitely. FOR UPDATE SEE More on Hug Point Closure: Damage at the N. Oregon Coast Legend, Possible Timeline
Other coastal state parks have some closures as well at Manzanita, Lincoln City and Oceanside.
Oregon State Parks sent out the notice on Monday. Erosion from storms took down parts of the cliff and possibly the stairway itself. Complete details were not available yet.
State Parks did release a statement saying it did not know when repairs could be done.
“Due to the complexity of the repair, we don’t yet have an estimated timeline for reopening,” the agency said.

The stairway to Hug Point has been taken out by tides and rebuilt several times over the last 25 years. During major wave events, the small beach can fill up at times, looking not unlike the Devil's Punchbowl farther south on the central Oregon coast.

Nearby Arcadia Beach was shut down for several weeks in the early 2000s due to major erosion there.
