At the south coast's Cape Blanco, history is getting remade before your eyes with its holiday open house and the Hughes House and Ranch concert on December 23. Cape Blanco State Park, its lighthouse and the historic home are hosting the open house until December 19. However, at the last minute the group in charge extended the event to Saturday (December 28) and Sunday (December 29).

The home will be open for public viewing from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with exhibits to explore as well as a silent auction, all of it put on by the Cape Blanco Historical Society (CBHS).

“The auction is to support our beloved historic sites which are such a vital part of our identity as a town and a community,” said CBHS executive director Rebecca Malamud-Evans. “This year's theme is MUSIC and the decorators selected Christmas classics to accompany their visual creations.”

This year's a special one, Malamud-Evans said.

“It just looks so amazing,” she told Oregon Coast Beach Connection. “And it is an interactive experience as well: we have a soundtrack of music while people tour the home (based on our decorator's music selections), our silent auction is really more of an art exhibit, plus we have a couple of beautiful museum exhibits in the rooms.”

Malamud-Evans said there's a lot of surprises.

The south Oregon coast landmark also hosts three other holiday events: Port Orford Main Street Holiday Teas will be on Friday (Dec 20), Saturday (Dec 21), and Sunday (Dec. 22). All are held at the historic Hughes House and all its charming holiday trimmings. Attendees can also get a tour of the fancy ol' home and bid on items in the silent auction. Ask a host onsite about that during the tea event.

Each day has two seatings: at 11 a.m. and at 1:30 p.m. You'll have to go to the Port Orford Main Street site to RSVP https://www.mainstreetportorford.org/.

Then comes the live concert on December 23 in the main parlor, featuring jazz vocalist Shaymus Hanlin. That happens from 2 to 4 p.m.
