(Lincoln City, Oregon) – Bring on the dockside yuletides. Bring on the glowing tree. It's Christmas time on the central Oregon coast. Two Lincoln City holiday staples begin this month, starting with the decking of the dock at Taft on November 22.
The Lincoln City Cultural Center will usher in the holiday season with its 14th annual Tree Lighting celebration on Friday, November 28, the day after Thanksgiving. The free community event promises an afternoon and evening of festive Oregon coast-inspired activities, music, art, and holiday cheer.
The celebration begins at 2 p.m. with the popular Make-n-Take Ornament Workshop, led by Visual Arts Director Krista Eddy in the Underground Art Lab. At 4:30 p.m., the Sweet Adelines will fill the air with carols, leading into the Tree Lighting Countdown at 5 p.m. Santa Claus is expected to arrive shortly after the tree is illuminated, around 5:15 p.m. He will remain until every child’s wish is heard.
“Complimentary cookies and hot chocolate will be available after 4:30pm, thanks to event sponsor Kenny’s IGA,” said organizers. “This is a free public event; all are welcome and encouraged to come celebrate, sing, and help decorate the tree.”

This year marks several exciting firsts for the Cultural Center. Surrounding the tree will be the debut of the Lincoln City Cosmography, a striking mandala-style installation composed of thousands of tiles arranged into 64 symbolic circles representing life on the Oregon coast. Also new is the Brick Gallery’s Holiday Lego exhibit, a Turkish Rug display and sale in the Fiber Arts Gallery, and the first Tree Lighting appearance by new Executive Director Serena Dressel.
The 30-foot community tree was donated and installed by Weyerhaeuser, continuing its support for the second consecutive year. Decorations will be handled by Eddy, Cultural Center staff, volunteers, and community members, with Pacific Power assisting in lighting the upper branches.

The event is made possible through the support of Kenny’s IGA, Weyerhaeuser, Pacific Power, the Sweet Adelines, and longtime volunteer Joe Speer. The tree will remain lit nightly throughout December in front of the historic Delake School entrance.

For a real dose of beachside yule, there's the Deck the Dock event on Siletz Bay on November 22. The family-friendly event is free and starts at 4:30 p.m. Santa and Mrs. Claus show up at 4:45 p.m.
It's put together by a partnership between Explore Lincoln City and Lincoln City Parks and Recreation Department.

“Kick off the holiday season with the lighting ceremony,” said organizers with the Lincoln City parks department. “ Then listen to carols while sipping on a cup of hot cocoa and get your photo taken with the Clauses and surprise special guests.”
