Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) said numerous highways and areas will be affected – not just the Oregon coast or Mt Hood.

ODOT said drivers traveling between Mount Hood and Seaside on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 28–29, should expect delays and heavy activity along the route as the annual Hood to Coast Relay returns. Intermittent congestion and reduced visibility will be a big factor in traveling some areas.

“Nearly 20,000 people are expected to participate in the event,” ODOT said. “Travelers also have the option of planning another route or schedule travel around the event.”

Transportation officials urge motorists to watch for participants and relay vehicles, and to consider alternate routes or adjust travel plans. Law enforcement agencies will be stationed along the course, and anyone witnessing dangerous driving is asked to call 911.

Runner-related traffic impacts are expected on several highways:

- S. 26 from Government Camp to Sandy: 3:15 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday
- S. 30 from northwest Portland to Scappoose: 4:15 a.m. Friday to 4:30 a.m. Saturday
- Sauvie Island Bridge: 5 a.m. Friday to 1:30 a.m. Saturday
- OR 47 between Vernonia and Mist: 5 p.m. Friday to 9:15 a.m. Saturday
- OR 202 from Mist to Astoria: 6:30 p.m. Friday to 2:30 p.m.
- Young’s River Loop south of Astoria: 3:15 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday
- Lewis & Clark Road between Astoria and Seaside: 4:45 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Saturday
- S. 101 in Seaside: 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday
