(Newport, Oregon) – What started out as a beautiful home about 100 years ago became a lovely addition to Oregon coast history within half a century. Originally built by a state senator as a dramatic oceanfront home, in the mid '80s it became a BnB, named Ocean House in honor of the first hotel in Newport (that building is still on the bayfront).

Now, it's been refurbished and re-vibed into one of the more stunning hotels in the region, while still keeping one foot in the past.

And there's still a "stay two nights, get the third free" special going for awhile.

At its start, it was a simply a grand home. In 1965, it was bought up by the Garrard family, who raised three daughters there until they left the nest. In '86, it became the Ocean House Bnb, where Mr. Garrard was head chef. Not quite 20 years later, he left the biz behind and it floated between different owners for the next 15 years.

It was several years ago that VIP Hospitality snapped up – just in time for the pandemic. That delayed the opening for a time, but by '22 Ocean House BnB emerged as one of the Oregon coast's top destinations. Even if it only had a few rooms.

Tucked into a quiet beach cove on the Newport shoreline, Ocean House feels like a private coastal hideaway. The boutique inn sits above a sweep of Pacific surf, offering postcard-worthy views from nearly every window and setting the stage for a truly remarkable Oregon coast escape.

Guests follow garden paths to decks overlooking the water, or settle into cozy common spaces perfect for reading, chatting, or unwinding with a glass of wine as the sun slips into the horizon. It also has a private pathway that leads down to a pristine, lightly traveled stretch of beach where tidepools and long walks await.

Surrounded by towering Douglas firs and lush Northwest greenery, this quiet retreat is still just minutes from Newport’s top attractions. Whether the plan is a romantic weekend or a small corporate getaway, Ocean House offers an oasis-like atmosphere with thoughtful touches throughout.

Guests wake to full, made-from-scratch plated breakfasts and can help themselves to complimentary wine, soft drinks, and fresh-baked cookies. Spacious oceanview rooms come well appointed, each with its own personality and a view framed by trees, surf, and sky. No two rooms are alike, but all include complimentary Wi-Fi and hand-selected amenities.

Much of the attraction here is just the architecture and interior design itself. The word “extravagant” is thrown around a lot but these room nail it with some of most stunning looks on this shoreline.

Then there are the copious special packages.

The Ocean House is rolling out a fresh set of coastal getaway perks, offering guests a chance to add a little extra charm to their stay. Packages can be booked online up to 72 hours before arrival, with a simple shopping-cart checkout waiting on the reservations page.

A seasonal favorite is the stay-longer special: book three nights or more and take 15 percent off your visit. The offer runs from October 1 through June 10, 2026, with standard blackout dates and restrictions, and it can’t be combined with other promotions. Guests can reserve online or call (541) 265-3888.

For couples planning a romantic escape, the Romance Package at $99 sets the mood with champagne, wine, or sparkling cider on ice, a long-stemmed rose, rose petals on the bed, locally made artisan chocolates, two terry robes to use during the stay, and a relaxed 1 p.m. checkout.

Celebrations get their own spotlight with the Celebration Package at $89, which includes a chilled bottle of champagne, wine, or cider, a long-stemmed rose, a balloon bouquet, cake for two, and a noon checkout.

For a classic Oregon Coast evening, the Beach Bonfire Package at $69 provides firewood, roasting sticks, a gourmet s’mores kit, a beach towel, and a beach bag - everything needed for a cozy night by the waves. 4920 NW Woody Way, Newport. 1.541.265.3888. Website
