(Garibaldi, Oregon) – It all begins with some rain on Monday and perhaps some light precipitation on Tuesday as well, and then temps inland begin to ramp up into the 90s and even past 100 for some southern Oregon areas. Even the coast of Oregon and Washington will get a little warmer than usual by the weekend. (Elephant Rock, Bandon; photo courtesy Manuela Durson - see Manuela Durson Fine Arts)

A sizable heatwave is coming for much of western Oregon later this week, but not before conditions get a little cooler and wetter, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). However, the Oregon coastline stays in the 60s most of the week, starting off with a bit of fog today and some overcast skies, getting sunny and around 70 by the weekend. The southern Curry coast get higher into the 70s throughout the week.

Around Portland, Salem, through Eugene and the northwest corner of the state, temps hit the 90s and may flirt with 100 later in the weekend, while the southern region – like Medford – reaches 105.

“Will transition from cooler trough pattern of Monday/Tuesday to a building ridge for Wednesday and beyond,” the NWS said. “Overall, appears inland temperatures will be in the 80s to lower 90s on WED, then in lower to middle 90s for THU through SAT, and likely into early the following week. But, at this time, do not see any indication that this will be as hot as the early July heat. At least appears to have some relief at night, with lows 55 to 65.”

In general, temps stay in the 60s through most of the week for areas like Coos Bay, Florence, Newport, Oceanside, or Cannon Beach, with partly cloudy conditions. On Wednesday the sun breaks out and mostly sticks around as daytime temps climb to about 70, making a truly pleasant beach experience. It will also provide respite from the valley heat.

South Coast from Port Orford to Brookings

There is a bit more sun a little more often in the early week than up north, and then temps climb into the low 70s from Wednesday through at least the weekend.

Northwestern Oregon

Portland, Silverton, McMinnville, Corvallis and Eugene will get to sweltering temps by the weekend, looking at the 90s or higher from Thursday forward. However, it's the mid 70s and some much needed rain for at least Monday.

Southern Oregon

From Tuesday onward it's at least the 90s for Medford, Roseburg or Ashland, and from Thursday through Sunday the area is looking at sunny skies and over 100 degrees.
