(Brookings, Oregon) – A run of ocean water advisories hit the Oregon coast this week, and just today – Saturday, September 4 - Oregon Health Authority (OHA) lifted them. The advisories stated were should avoid contact with the ocean water or any pools of water standing higher on the beaches.
Officials issued two ocean water advisories Friday after when samples detected elevated fecal bacteria at Lincoln City's Siletz Bay and Mill Beach in Curry County. Oceanside’s advisory had been posted a day earlier on September 2.
“Results from follow-up tests taken by the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) showed lower bacteria levels. Contact with the ocean water no longer poses a higher-than-normal risk,” OHA said.
Beaches immediately neighboring them were not affected, such as the SW 35th St. access in Lincoln City or Netarts near the Oceanside beach area. Mill Beach in Brookings is a relatively small beach, and although the areas around it are not monitored it would've been a good idea to steer clear of beach accesses close to it.

However, OHA did not issue that guidance: this is advice from Oregon Coast Beach Connection.
Officials still urge caution around large pools that form on beaches and attract birds, noting that runoff from those areas can contain higher concentrations of fecal matter.
This is why most oceanfront hotels and beach accesses as you not to feed the birds. They hover in the area and release their waste into the waters.

Health advisories such as these are usually lifted quickly, almost never last more than a few days.
Oregon has monitored ocean water quality at popular beaches since 2003 through a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency grant, with OHA, DEQ and Oregon Parks and Recreation Department jointly running the program.
