Reedsport to Brookings, places to stay; winter deals

(Pacific City, Oregon) – Two vacation rental companies on the central Oregon coast are helping to answer the questions: “Can I still find a place out there for Thanksgiving?” and “Can I get any winter deals on rentals?” (Above: near Pacific City. Photo Oregon Coast Beach Connection)

Thanksgiving is almost impossible to find a vacation rental on the Oregon coast, for those old or maybe new family traditions of heading to the beach for Turkey Day, cooking the big meal there and spend a couple of days burning off that feast.

Then, for the rest of November and much of December, prices drop quite a bit as things get slow out there.

Both will come in handy if you're looking for a cheaper stay on the coast for the king tides in either Pacific City or Lincoln City area. You'll also find some links here to other areas up in the Washington coast.

This year comes with two big bonuses in that regard. Pacific City's Kiwanda Coastal Properties not only has some openings left for the holiday but they're offering discounts. In Lincoln City, A1 Beach Rentals has openings left for this weekend right after Thanksgiving, but they're boasting some extremely low rates for vacation rentals this winter.

You can also see some last minute openings at BeachCombers NW, in scattered places around the Oregon coast and Washington coast at this link.

At Kiwanda Coastal Properties, you can find some real gems still open for Thanksgiving, and if you enter the code 15%THANKS you get 15 percent off that stay. You can see the whole bunch still open at this link.

Among the highlights there are:

The Sand Castle is a splendiferous oceanfront home in peaceful, super laidback Tierra Del Mar, just north of Pacific City. There's a wall of windows out to that mellow surf – about secluded as you can get in that area. It features a gourmet kitchen, master suite and a multi-jetted shower. See the website here.

The Fine Recline is in the Kiwanda Shores gated community in Pacific City and is close to the beach: you'll have no problem hearing the waves from here. There's a cozy yet open layout in this spacious north Oregon coast beauty, with a gas fireplace, two large bedrooms and a den with a sleeper-sofa and TV. Behind it is a back deck that can often shelter you from the wind. See website here.

Down in Lincoln City, some properties are still open at A1 Beach Rentals for the weekend, although the Thanksgiving date itself just closed up. Still, throughout November and December they're featuring far-below standard rates, much lower than many this time of year. A1 Beach Rentals told Oregon Coast Beach Connection many are starting at $175 to $225 a night, depending on the property.

Among those still open Saturday and Sunday as well as featuring lower-than-usual rates are:

Sea Star North is an oceanfront, three-bedroom cottage that is part of a historical duplex in Lincoln City's rather hidden Roads End area. There's only 12 steps to the sand from here. It sleeps six and will be a perfect spot to watch the king tides with safety. Look for a fireplace and enormous picture windows and beach toys among its many features. Website here.

And now for something a little different: a hot property in Glenden Beach. This unique area just south of Lincoln City is known for interestingly rowdy tides because of the way the beach slopes more abruptly. Kirsty's Cottage overlooks that with its shingled elegance, a plush living room gazing out over panoramic views, gas fireplace, plus a deck with transparent walls to see even more of the tidal melee in winter. Website here.
