(Astoria, Oregon) – It's not exactly a white Valentine's Day – at least not entirely. However, Monday night and Tuesday morning will turn on the snow spigot for not just the inland areas like Portland or Eugene, but half the Washington coast and all of the Oregon coast. All have winter weather advisories in effect for that time. (Above: snow in Astoria, courtesy Angi D. Wildt Gallery)

Meanwhile, plenty of dangerous surf advisories have gone up for all the Oregon coast and Washington coast.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has put out winter weather advisories for the south Washington coast through the northern half of the Oregon coast, as well as another for the southern Oregon coast.

“Wet snow expected,” the NWS said. “Total snow accumulations of a trace to 0.5 inches, except 0.5 to 3 inches above 500 feet.”

While inland cities are expected to get as much as two or more inches of snow on Tuesday morning, the NWS said some models are showing possibilities of higher amounts than that along the northern Oregon coast. Other models are showing a greatly diminished chance of a dusting the closer you get to Florence.

For the south Oregon coast, including Coos and Curry counties, the advisories are more for 500 feet and above. However, the NWS said some trace amounts may briefly fall on those areas.

The Oregon Coast Range and the Willapa Hills will get more snow because of the higher elevations. Prepare for some for travel issues.

Those areas are under a winter weather warning, with as much as 7 inches of snow possible along the higher parts of the highways passes.

“Plan on slippery road conditions,” the NWS said. “The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute.”

Any amounts of snow for the I-5 Corridor, the Washington coast or the Oregon coast will be melting by the early afternoon.
