| Gusty, Wet Days for Oregon Coast, Portland, Willamette Valley, Cascades

(Oregon Coast) – The National Weather Service in Portland (NWS) says to brace yourself for some mighty winds and rain for the Oregon coast from now through the weekend, but also in the Portland area, Willamette Valley, Cascades, Hood River Valley and Columbia Gorge.
The NWS said several wet systems will bring lots of rain, cooler temps and gusty winds to southwest Washington and northwest Oregon.
“The first in a series of storm systems will bring wide widespread rain to the Pacific Northwest starting late tonight, then spread inland by Thursday afternoon,” the NWS said. “Gusty south winds will also impact the coast Thursday, with gusts up to 45 mph expected.”
It's not a major Oregon coast storm, by any means, but a sizable one that should result in some interesting wave drama.
More systems are on their way to the coast after that, continuing the cool and wet conditions across the region, including more gusty winds.
Snow levels will drop to near the passes, which means you can expect the Cascades to see several inches of snow through the course of the weekend.
The NWS said there is even a gale warning just offshore.
“Low pressure will approach the region Thursday from the SW and move north to near Vancouver Island by Thursday evening,” the NWS said. “This is the first of several potent systems that will affect the region through the weekend. “
Thursday night offshore winds will get between 28 to 34 mph and seas will get to a somewhat large height of 11 feet. Friday the winds will be in the lower 20's, but gusting beyond 35 mph on the waters later Friday night.
Saturday the winds will calm down but waves will stick to around 9 to 13 feet high.
See the Oregon coast road conditions and traffic page for any travel warnings that may occur in the coast range or the Willamette Valley Road Conditions, Traffic, which contains some travel information about the Cascades.
