Book on Newport History Now Available in Central Oregon Coast Stores Published 12/16/2010 (Newport, Oregon) – A new book about the history of the central Oregon coast resort town of Newport has now made it to several retail outlets in the area. “Newport” is the simply-titled retrospective, which was written under the auspices of the Lincoln County Historical Society by staff members Diane Disse, Jodi Weeber, and Loretta J. Harrison. It contains some 228 rich photographs. The book itself closely follows the history of Newport from its early inhabitants through the two World Wars illustrating the beauty and bounty of the area and the rugged, independent, and versatile folks who populated the region. It also looks at the industries of logging, fishing, and tourism – showing up as major themes of the book as. Indeed, they are integral to the history of Newport.
