(Oregon Coast) – The National Weather Service (NWS) is issuing a high wind watch for the Oregon coast and coast range, which could mean some power outages along beach towns and winds up around 40 mph. (Above: Oceanside)

The wind watch is in effect from Monday afternoon through Tuesday morning, and includes towns like Astoria, Seaside, Cannon Beach, Manzanita, Rockaway Beach, Oceanside, Pacific City, Lincoln City, Depoe Bay, Newport, Yachats, Florence and even on the southern Washington Coast. In the coast range, this means towns like Vernonia and even Sandy could experience higher winds.
“Expect south winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts to 60 mph,” the NWS said in a bulletin. “Strongest near beaches and headlands. “Winds could also approach warning criteria in coastal communities as well.”
The south winds increase later Monday afternoon and keep up through early morning on Tuesday.
The winds will make for difficult driving conditions and could cause the power to go out in some areas.

“A wind watch means there is the potential for a hazardous wind event,” the NWS said. “Sustained winds of at least 40 mph or gusts of 58 or stronger may occur.”
