| Weather and Big Event Highlights on Central Oregon Coast

(Newport, Oregon) – August and September feature a bevy of high-profile events and landmarks for Newport. While September heralds in the best weather of the year on the Oregon coast (called the “Second Summer”), the next month and a half features a jazz festival, NOAA opening its facilities, an outdoor farmer’s market, the Nye Beach Stroll, and more.
Second Summer on the Oregon Coast. Beginning in September, and usually going through most of October, you get the most inviting weather of the entire year on the coast. Temperatures stick around the 70’s, winds are quite low to non-existent, and the skies are bluer than you’ll ever find them.
It’s nicknamed the “second summer” on the coast, and it’s something you can count on like clockwork for this season.
The culprit is a mix of weather conditions at this time of year. One of the biggest factors is the temperature differences between inland Oregon and the coast are less because the valley has cooled a little and the ocean is warmer because of the summer sun through July and August. This allows warmer winds from the east and south to dominate, and diminishes the possibility for fog coming off the ocean.
On top of this, it’s the most inviting time of the year. Crowds have decreased, traffic on 101 is less and lodging prices often have gone down – sometimes substantially.
