Oregon Coast Fourth of July, Independence Day Guide, 2010 Published 06/09/2010
(Oregon Coast) – It's when summer really gets into high gear on the Oregon coast, as everyone (and their dog) hits the beaches for a good dose of downhome Independence Day and real Americana. Some places celebrate their Independence Day on the third – those are noted here. All others take place on July 4, a Sunday this year. Look for Oregon Coast Beach Connection’s Fourth of July lodging availability report a few days before the holiday for any remaining openings, as most places are already booked up almost completely in the region. Fireworks begin at dusk and last for 20-25 minutes. Fireworks shot over the Columbia River, East Moring Basin. 503-325-6311. Astoria, Oregon. Warrenton. Old Fashioned Fourth. Game booths, children’s rides, petting zoo, jump houses, food and vendor booths. Noon to 5 p.m. Robinson Community Park (behind City Hall). Warrenton, Oregon. Annual BBQ at the Fire Station. Seaside. 11 a.m. Museum and Historical Society-sponsored parade through downtown Seaside will feature three world championship drum & bugle corps groups. The parade will end on the Museum grounds for an Old Fashioned Social with games, food and activities including a continuous cake walk. At 10 p.m., the enormous fireworks show will start, coordinated to music and broadcast on speakers along the Promenade. Spectators can also bring a portable radio and tune it to 94.4 fm to hear the musical presentation. Cannon Beach. No information available, but there is usually a parade through town. No fireworks celebrations because of wildlife refuge restrictions. North Coast Symphonic Band Concert, directed by Larry Johnson performs at 2 p.m. Cannon Beach City Park.
Manzanita. Several events planned throughout the day. Manzanita Pancake Breakfast, 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Fire Hall, Manzanita. Independence Day Parade, 1 p.m. Through Manzanita – onlookers are urged to join in the marching. 503-368-5100. Nehalem Bay Winery Fourth of July Barbecue. Free hot dogs. Music by Baby Gramps (blues). $5 cover for music (children under 6 are free and minors must be accompanied by a parent). Free food, but drinks are for purchase. Festivities start a ways after 1 p.m. (just after Manzanita’s parade) and will wrap up about 5:30 p.m. Nehalem Bay Winery, Hwy 53 (just outside of Nehalem). 1-888-368-9463. Rockaway Beach. July 4th Parade (11 a.m.), Auction at the Caboose at noon. Fireworks at dusk are sizable and impressive for such a small town. 503-355-8108. Fireworks happen at dusk near Cape Kiwanda.
Cloverdale – July 3. Clover's Day Festival: 'Party in the Pasture.' Led by the prettiest cow in town, the Clover's Day parade is just the beginning of fun in this charming small town celebration. Pancake breakfast, classic auto show, live music. This is one of the oldest events in South Tillamook County. Cloverdale, along Highway 101, north of Neskowin. Live Music at Cape Kiwanda, July 3 - 4. The Kiwanda Music Festival is planning a sensational show. Music, dancing, and the surf all come together for an extravagant beach party. Pacific City, Oregon.
Lincoln City. Fireworks on the Bay at SW 51st in Taft, with a National Guard flyover at 3 p.m. Lincoln City, Oregon. 541-996-1274. Gleneden Beach 4th of July Celebration includes Pancake Breakfast from 8 - 11 a.m., Craft & Food Fair from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m., and 16th Annual Parade at 1 p.m. 541-764-8916 or www.glenedenbeach.org Depoe Bay - 3rd of July. Fireworks at Boiler Bay State Scenic Viewpoint beginning at dusk. Parking is limited at the park, but there is parking at various spots in town and a shuttle running about every 20 minutes. Nye Beach (July 3) 8th Annual Newport Clambake and Seafood BBQ again comes to Newport on July 3, with food and fun on the beach, all with a historical theme that recalls the days when Nye Beach was actually a separate village from Newport, connected only by a muddy, ruddy set of wooden planks. The Newport Clambake and Seafood BBQ goes from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Nye Beach Turnaround. Kicking off this pet-friendly event is a pet parade that start at the Performing Arts Center at 9:30 a.m., ending at the turnaround at 9:45 a.m. Newport. Fourth of July means Yaquina Bay Fireworks. The sky lights up over Yaquina Bay. Best watching spots are the bayfront or South Beach. The fireworks make a massive noise as the sound bounces off the mountains. Newport, Oregon.
Waldport. No information was available, but they typically have their fireworks on the third. Yachats Fourth of July Ice Cream Social. Each slice is a generous 6th of a pie and costs $3. Add a scoop of ice cream for an additional fifty cents. A variety of beverages will also be sold. Sunday 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. Yachats Commons, W 4th & Hwy 101. Yachats, Oregon. Yachats La De Da Parade and Fireworks Show. Fun, whimsical, low-tech parade at noon. Food, entertainment and music all afternoon and evening about town. Spectacular fireworks at dusk over the Yachats Bay.
July 4. 5th Annual Duck for Kids Race. 1,200 Rubber Duckies will be dropped from the Yachats River Bridge, just south of downtown Yachats to race down the river! Watch from the beach below the bridge at Yachats Ocean Road State Park. You may sponsor a duck for $5 or 3 ducks for $10. Buy your chance to win at various local businesses. Yachats State Scenic Area at the Yachats River Bridge. Florence. Independence Day Celebrations include live outdoor music in Old Town, and a largescale fireworks display over the Siuslaw River. Local buildings and planter boxes are dressed up in seasonal, USA colors, and flowers are in bloom.
