New Year's Eve Parties on the Oregon Coast
(Oregon
Coast) - It's the big celebration of the year. It's when people either
stuff themselves silly on special last-meal-of-the-year menus, or they
make silly fools of themselves in the party scene around midnight.
The coast has a special quality when it comes to New Year's
Eve, partially because the bars themselves have a wacky quality year-round.
It’s where the rugged individualist locals meet the tourists with
abandoned inhibitions, since they’re out of town and no one can
report on their unusual behavior.
But for others, it's a calm, reflective time – a
place to take in an exceptional meal with an ocean view and relax with
friends or loved ones. For those, the celebration must be a classier one.
This New Year's Eve roster includes both possibilities:
the wild and the tame.
Here's a list of bars and restaurants with specials planned
for dinner, the late night hours – or both. Following that is a
list of bar suggestions for more possibilities of holiday frivolity.

| Manzanita's wacky impromptu, unstructured parade. |
Manzanita's Wacko New Year’s Eve Midnight
Parade. A little known secret about Manzanita’s New Year’s
celebrations is its New Year Parade at midnight, which has been a surreal
little local tradition that’s been happening for at least a few
years. Generally, people just stagger out of the local bars and perform
an oddball parade of sorts – proof again of the kooky and creative
side to the fun-loving locals. Now, only the San Dune exists in Manzanita,
but some may be coming from nearby The Wateringhole in Nehalem or Sea
Shack in Wheeler. In the past, there was, among other things, a large
dragon costume. It’s quite a spectacle. In recent years, the city
grudgingly gave it’s okay for the parade, partially on the basis
it would happen with or without the permit.
