Winery on Oregon Coast Gives Vino a Fun and
Musical Twist
 |
| David Grisman performing at the winery a few years ago |
(Nehalem, Oregon) – (Nehalem, Oregon) – It’s
more than just a winery that sits on a hill, surrounded by lush farmland
and the small mountains of the coast range clustered close together.
It’s a palace of fun and an intriguing place for
a live music venue.
Each year, the winery hosts a joyous blues festival, a
legendary Fourth of July party, and the massive Bluegrass n’ BBQ
festival that often features national acts like David Grisman, Laurie
Lewis or the Austin Lounge Lizards. There are other intriguing, unforgettable
music festivals as well, which differ from year to year.

At the Nehalem Bay Winery, you’ll discover a whole
new take on the world of wine tasting. It’s fun, it’s funky
and it’s very quirky – shaking loose all pretentiousness from
the vino experience.
 |
| Nehalem Bay Winery |
First, you enter the thick green farmlands and tightly
knit hills, immediately evoking the wine producing regions of France or
Germany. Even the building – a historic creamery – looks somewhat
European in architecture. You immediately sense something is different,
even more upbeat than usual.
A large variety of wines are on hand at the tasting room,
which guests can enjoy year round, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day. The
fun never stops at this varietal merry-go-round.
The also ship wines right to you, wherever you are. One
of their more popular features is visitors ordering more of this delicious
nectar from wherever they live around the country, after they’ve
gotten hooked on the stuff during a trip to the stunning Oregon coast.
They
also have some great specials that include free shipping. Call them or
email them with an order and you’ll get it quickly. www.nehalembaywinery.com
For Portlanders or visitors to Astoria, you can find
them at the Portland Farmers Market, Thursdays in the Pearl District June;
and Astoria Sunday Market through early October in Downtown Astoria.
The Nehalem Bay Winery is located on Highway 53,
one mile from Highway 101, between Wheeler and Nehalem. Advance tickets
are on sale now. Call 888-368-9463. www.nehalembaywinery.com.
The winery is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. for wine tasting and
other memorable moments every day throughout the rest of the year, except
some major holidays.
The 2008 Summer Schedule:
Monday, May 26: Memorial Weekend Blues Festival.
The annual celebration is a combination of music, lip-smacking barbecue
and beverages – open to the whole family. This now-legendary festival
has featured such luminaries as Paul DeLay and Linda Hornbuckle in the
past, This year it features Norman Sylvester, the Portland artist known
as the “Boogie Cat” for his infectious mix of soul, funk and
gritty blues. Also on the bill is the Astoria favorite Bond Street Blues.
Cover is $10. Food and drink are available for purchase.
6 p.m.
June 14: Juneteenth Reggae Festival. The
big one is back this year, featuring the dreadlocked polyrhythms and world
beat influences of Portland band Rhythm Culture, as well as Red Stripe
beer to go with your Rasta.

The show begins early, at 4 p.m.

BBQ with live music in the afternoon following the parade in Manzanita.
A great time for the whole family. Free.
July

just about anything performance-oriented is back. It all got started in
the 90’s with a visit by author Ken Kesey. You’ll see music,
readings, performance art, and possibly theater. It’s always a potpourri
of surprises.
August 16: Bluegrass N’ BBQ. This
year, it falls on a Saturday – not on a Wednesday, as in past years.
This one-of-a-kind, downhome festival has featured David Grisman, Laurie

year still to be announced.
