| The winery sits in the middle of epic, lush farmland that resembles European wine country. |
(Nehalem, Oregon) – The north coast town of Nehalem will be buzzing with the sounds of bluegrass on August 14, as the Nehalem Bay Winery will be again holding their annual Bluegrass ‘N’ Barbecue. But the churning, driving tunes will be joined by the sound of smacking lips as the winery features a bundle of barbecued foods as well.
Headlining the show will be north coast bluegrass band Floating Glass balls. The band is a Cannon Beach staple, playing a combination of traditional bluegrass mixed with tunes that meld different genres. They’ve nicknamed it “beachgrassy.” Along with the more straight ahead numbers, Floating Glass Balls throws out surprises like a little bit of reggae, or tunes from big names like Chris Hillman, Townes Van Zandt and Bob Dylan.

| Hundreds can gather for these Bluegrass festivals at the winery. |
Also on the bill is Small Towne Bluegrass Band is from Portland, featuring Tygh Trachsel on bass, Dave Elliott on mandolin, Peter Schwimmer on banjo, and Randy Weese on guitar. All live in the greater Portland area except Weese, who lives in Astoria. Trachsel is also famous for his stints on KBOO radio, especially the bluegrass show Music of the True Vine.
The Bluegrass ‘n’ Barbecue fest often fills up local lodgings by itself, sometimes drawing 300 to as many as 500 music fans. In the past, the festival has featured big names like David Grisman, Laurie Lewis and even the Austin Lounge Lizards.
The festival again features their famous barbecue, which features chicken, pulled pork, quesadillas, red beans and rice, and salads.
