Composer's Oregon Coast Home Site of Classical Concert Published 01/04/2010
(Newport, Oregon) - The Oregon Coast Chamber Music Society (OCCMS) in conjunction with the Oregon Coast Council for the Arts and the Ernest Bloch Institute Committee present a special concert on Saturday, January 16, 2010 at 4 p.m. in the former home of composer Ernest Bloch. The City of Newport is helping to sponsor this event. All Classical Radio is helping to promote this event. The Ernest Bloch Legacy Foundation is also helping to sponsor this event. The Quartet Americano is led by Yvonne Hsueh, the concertmaster of the Newport Symphony Orchestra. The Oregon Coast Chamber Music Society is in its second season. The OCCMS has re-introduced the tradition of hosting live chamber music in the intimate setting of private homes. Program to be announced.
Earlier in the day, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., volunteer docents will be conducting an Open House for the public. All are welcome. The Open House is free and open to the public. Tickets are $25.00 for the chamber music concert. Those attending should plan to park on Ernest Bloch Place (NW 49th Street) on Highway 101 in Newport. Signs to the Bloch home will be posted. It is a short walk from the parking area. Those with special needs should plan to park closer to the house. Call for details. Winter Events at Oregon Coast Aquarium January 8. Sea Squirts: Kool Kelp. Explore the fascinating underwater world of kelp through touch and taste. That’s right. Edible kelp! 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. Ages 2-3/parent $15 members, $20 non-members. Reserve at (541) 867-3474, ext. 5301. January 9. Family Sleepover. Families spend the night in Passages of the Deep. Eat pizza, go on a scavenger hunt participate in activities. Have a late night snack then sleep with the sharks. Wake to breakfast & tour! January 9. Flock of Fledglings: A Sea of Sight. 5-part series. Children sail through a “sea of senses” to discover how animals, see, taste, hear, smell and more. First class focuses on sight by exploring what, how and where animals see. 9:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. Ages 4-5. $25 members, $30 non-members. Reserve at (541) 867-3474, ext. 5301. January 16. Sea Lion Encounter. Learn about the Aquarium’s pinnipeds, get a sea lion kiss and explore behind the scenes at the aquarium. 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Ages 8 and up. $35 members, $40 non-members (limit 10 people per encounter).
