Oregon Coast Aquarium Celebrates Jellyfish Jubilee

The "Second annual Jellyfish Jubilee; A Celebration of Food and Wine," happening September 19 from 6 - 9 p.m.

(Newport, Oregon) – The Oregon Coast Aquarium is getting ready for its annual fundraiser, the "Second annual Jellyfish Jubilee; A Celebration of Food and Wine," happening September 19 from 6 - 9 p.m. The event will fill the Aquarium with the aromas, tastes and sounds of exceptional Northwest cuisine, wines, music and a silent auction benefiting the Aquarium’s exhibits and education programs. The event will also provide an opportunity to meet the Aquarium’s new President and Chief Executive Officer, Gary Gamer, who will begin his position September 8.

The lineup so far includes fourteen of the region’s finest culinary establishments, five wineries, a brewery and a local coffee company offering their most tempting specialties in a feast for all the senses, celebrating the bounty of the great Pacific Northwest. The evening will also include live music, animal encounters, interpretive dives and behind the scenes tours of the Aquarium. Chefs and vintners have been anticipating the opportunity to share their passion for extraordinary food and wine during this unique event surrounded by the shimmering waters of the Aquarium.

Jellyfish Jubilee Culinary Chair Mike Downing, award winning Executive Chef and proprietor of Quimby’s Restaurant in Newport, plans to serve his favorite dish at the event, blackened ahi. “This event is a chance to enjoy wonderful food, music and mingling with like-minded people who aren’t afraid to invest in a fabulous evening for a great cause,” said Downing. “This year we plan to position compatible foods and wines next to each other so people can sample different food/wine/beer pairings.”

Other featured restaurants include Angell Job Corps Culinary, Bamboo Sushi, The Bay House, Bay 839, Chinook Winds, Georgie's Beachside Grill, Local Ocean Seafoods, Nana’s Irish Pub, Rogue Ales Brewery, Saffron Salmon, Savory Café and Pizzeria, Starfish Grill, and Tsunami Coffee & Chocolate Company.

Participating wineries and breweries include Beacon Hill Vineyards, Belle Vallee Cellars, Duck Pond Cellars, Rogue Ales Brewery, Sokol Blosser Winery, Stoller Vineyards, and coffee by EspressGo.

Live music will add to the festive ambience including jazz from Perpetua Jazz and Celtic harp music performed by Khloella Brateng.

A special reception from 6 to 7 pm will be limited to 200 people, offering first access to culinary creations, private wine tastings, and special behind the scenes. The main event will be from 7 to 9 pm.

Silent auction items include an Alaska Cruise on Royal Carribean, packages from Timberline, The Heathman, Tyee Lodge, a Salishan golf package, tickets to the 2010 US Amateur Golf Championship at Chambers Bay, a U of O Ducks package, an OSU Beavers package, Trailblazer items, several Oregon Coast getaway packages and many other items including unique works of art and restaurant packages.

Tickets for admission to the event are $125, which includes the reception from 6-7 p.m. and the main event from 7 to 9 p.m. Tickets to the main event alone are $90. In either case, Aquarium members qualify for a 20 percent discount. Lodging discounts will be offered by the Holiday Inn Express, The Whaler Motel, La Quinta Inn & Suites and Shilo Inn. Visitors wishing to take advantage of lodging discounts must mention they are attending the Jellyfish Jubilee.
