Oregon Coast Wine News: New Sellers, NASCAR Connection

Nehalem Bay Winery

(Nehalem, Oregon) – Two geographically distant parts of the Oregon coast are connecting via a bottle of wine, a central coast B&B now features fine wines for its guests – and a north coast winery has snagged a relationship with NASCAR.

At the Nehalem Bay Winery, employee John Forrester recently became one of a handful of Oregon people to hop on a NASCAR team.

He’s part of the pit crew for Ryan Newman – actually the crew’s official barbecue chef.

Nehalem Bay Winery sponsors him on his NASCAR jaunts around the country by buying the food that he serves Newman and other members of his crew. Forrester estimates he goes out at least once a month on races with Newman, where he gets all access passes to the races and the facility.

“I can go anywhere,” Forrester said. It means he regularly gets to hobnob with racing stars of all kinds, including heroes like Gordon or Earnhardt.

As one of Nehalem Bay Winery’s top sellers, he’s been able to convince some NASCAR officials to come out to Oregon and grab some of the coastal nectar. Ryan Newman has even served the wine at a recent birthday part of his.

Since Nehalem Bay Winery has also become a dealer for Traeger Grills, Forrester has been using Traeger grills at the racetrack.

Just south of Newport lays a rugged stretch of rather clandestine coastline, sparsely populated by a few homes and a handful of businesses. Now, however, they are allowing guests to purchase some of their stellar collection of 550 wines. Co-owner Don Weller said some of these date back to 1998, and include wines from Australia, Italy, France, Chile and many from the U.S.
