– The Nehalem and Wilson rivers, on the north Oregon coast,
have finally crested and are slowly falling.
Officials say the Wilson
River reached a record high.
Still, the flooding
has taken its toll on the area. As of late Tuesday night, Miami
Foley Road near Garibaldi was still closed, and the Nehalem area
was a serious mess of flooding.
Rachel Sipp, who took these photos, said power was going on and
off at her home in Nehalem.
owner of San
Dune Inn in Manzanita, said parts of the Nehalem Bay area were
looking scary as he traveled between parts of Highway 53 and Manzanita.
like if we get much more of the bay and the 'new' lakes just south
of the Nehalem bridge, they'll merge across 101 into one huge body
of water,” Hines said. “On the land side, the water
was already lapping at the edge of the road - the same on 53 from
101 to the Nehalem Bay Winery.”
the closed roads even affected postal delivery and distribution
of The Oregonian. “The mail truck didn't show up at the post
office until 9.30 a.m.,” he said. “It’s usually
about 7.45 a.m. And no Oregonian yet, so maybe they didn't get through.”

His motel also
got filled with numerous refugees on Monday night.
one guest who has cancer of the lungs and liver and who is on oxygen,
but the supply house in Tillamook can't get thru due to the flooding
down there,” Hines said. “Luckily he has reserve capacity.”
construction guy just checked in and said a landslide closed Highway
53. He had to back up with his big rig trailer a mile or so just
to find a driveway to turn around and head back to 26.”
Hines said he
had one couple check in who couldn’t make it out of the coastal
region who also said Miami Foley Road was closed as well. One Manzanita
woman has booked a room there because her basement is flooded, and
the owner of the Big Wave Café just booked her cooks into
the motel to make sure she can stay open. “Marcie from the
Big Wave was just in and booked a room for her two cooks for tonight,”
he said Monday night. “They didn't show up until 2 p.m. for
work due to floods in Seaside, so they didn't start any cooking
at the Wave until then. They don't want the same to happen tomorrow

City Vacation Homes
There’s something for everyone
among this selection of wondrous homes: smaller homes with a view
to a large house that sleeps 15. All the homes are either oceanfront
or just a few steps away from the sand – all with a low
bank access and fantastic views. Most are in the Nelscott area;
one is close to the casino. You’ll find a variety of goodies,
depending on the home: fireplaces, multiple bedrooms, dishwashers,
Jacuzzis, washer/dryers, hot tubs, cable TV, VCR, barbecues; there’s
a loft in one, and another sprawling home has two apartments.
Pets are allowed in some homes – ask ahead. Each comes with
complete kitchens so you’ll have a home away from home.
Most have the seventh night free. Prices range from winter $85
to summer $230 per night. www.getaway2thecoast.com.
