(Newport, Oregon) - Creatures of the Night, the Oregon Coast Aquarium’s annual Halloween party, broke its attendance record for the second year in a row last Saturday with 2,480 people attending and contributing 3,375 pounds of food to Lincoln County Food Share, over 1,000 pounds more than last year. The event, which began at 7 pm and ended at 9 pm, was attended by ghouls, goblins and some who chose not to wear a costume. The foggy courtyard at the entrance was hosted by a Psycho Circus and an assortment of weird characters entertaining visitors as they queued in line for the opening.

“Lincoln County Food Share is in dire need of food for their pantry,” said Carrie Lewis, Aquarium Marketing Director. “People were very generous with their donations at the door.” Admission to the event was two items of food or pet food for the Lincoln County Animal Shelter or a new toy.

This year’s theme, “Fractured Fairy Tales,” offered interactive games and activities for younger children and a more frightful experience for older children. A “Wicked Wizard” enticed visitors to venture down the “bloody brick road,” creepy creatures and zombies hid in the shadows of the nature trail. Ghouls swam alongside the fish in Passages of the Deep. A costume contest had winners in four different age groups, with David Green and his family stealing the show in medieval knight and damsel costumes.
Lincoln
County Food Share is a community based nonprofit organization dedicated
to fighting hunger. It serves six independent food pantries, two meal
sites and six supplemental nutrition programs. Recent economic conditions
and high unemployment rates have put increased pressure on the emergency
food system and the pantry has been especially low this year.
