Ocean Beach Picnic Area, Siuslaw National Forest - between Florence and Yachats
A tiny, inconspicuous road rolls down a steep hill to a grassy picnic area that overlooks this dreamy beach scene. An indentation at its southern end forms a sort of cove and hideaway from the wind. To the north, it's a vast stretch of pristine, hardly-touched beach.
In the bottom photograph, this was the scene around 2003, when a storm had torn away the steps to the beach. Someone had created a rope system to allow some of the heariter beachgoers access.
In recent years, this has been replaced by a shiny new - and much sturdier - set of steps for easy access.
