As you round the bend coming from Pacific City – or as you ascend the hill from the Sand Lake area heading south – a bluff suddenly opens up, giving extraordinary views of Tierra Del Mar, Cape Lookout to the north, and the other side of Haystack Rock to the south. A couple of gravel pullouts allow you a chance to take in the scenery, perfect for a lunch while reveling in the sky and sea.
A guardrail blocks your path somewhat, but step over it and you can take some dramatic shots through these angular, storm-whipped trees.
This is also a place where hang gliders like to jump off. Sometimes, you can see them assembling or disassembling their sky ride.
