Every First Thursday of the Month – Yachats Big Band, at the Yachats Commons. Couples, families and singles are invited to dance to the Big Band Classics of Glen Miller, Count Basie, Duke Ellington and others. Wednesday – Sunday. Roving Interpreter. Smelt Sands State Wayside and the 804 Trail (Memorial Day-Labor Day). Learn the trail's history and find native plants. Begins at Smelt Sand parking lot and heads north. Smelt Sands State Wayside, one mile north of downtown Yachats, on Hwy 101. At Yachats State Park, hear programs about tide pools and the whales seen from the park's platform. Find Yachats State Park at the west end of 2nd St in downtown Yachats. At Strawberry Hill, explore tide pools with the Roving Interpreter and hear about harbor seals resting nearby on the rocks. July 4. 3rd Annual Duck for Kids Race. Ducks will be launched at the Yachats River Bridge, just south of downtown Yachats. 1,000 Rubber Duckies will be dropped from the bridge to race down the Yachats River. Watch from the beach below the bridge at Yachats Ocean Road State Park. First ducks across the finish line will win fantastic prizes. You may sponsor a duck for $5 or 3 ducks for $10. July 11-13. 28th Annual Yachats Music Festival. See the internationally acclaimed artists of FOUR SEASONS CONCERTS. Three-day music festival includes cameo performances by 20 to 30 major classical artists. July 12. 38th Annual Yachats Smelt Fry. All you can eat smelt, with rolls, coleslaw, pickles, chips and drink. Sausage with soft drink and all the fixings will also be available, as will dessert.
