Oregon Festival Changes Name to ‘A Taste of Newport’
(Newport,
Oregon) - What was once called the Newport MicroBrew Festival has
shifted focus, expanded and changed its name to “A Taste of
Newport.”
Now, the famous
festival and celebration of Oregon coast brews and wines always
held in October has become this more all-inclusive entity, embracing
families as well and downplaying the beer and wine.

Another change
in direction: the festival will be held at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds
Exhibit Hall, instead of the marina at South Beach, as was traditional
for the MicroBrew Festival.
“We decided
to go a different route this time and incorporate the family friendly
element more, thus expanding our appeal and broadening the audience,”
said Lorna Davis, Director of the Newport Chamber of Commerce. “It’s
held on a three-day weekend that’s a holiday, and we think
that offers a lot more possibilities for people looking for something
to do when they’re getting away from the valley.”
Davis said the
Hatfield Marine Science Center would also have a presence at A Taste
of Newport Festival. There will two or three representatives from
beer vendors and two or three wine vendors, but the focus is now
on the cuisine of the Newport area of the Oregon coast as well as
its arts & crafts.
The change in
direction is a permanent one, Davis said. “This year will
be a template for the following years,” she said.
Festival hours
will be 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday.
$5 for adults, $3 for children. Parking is free. 800-262-7844.

Lincoln
City Vacation Homes There’s
something for everyone among this selection of wondrous homes:
smaller homes with a view to a large house that sleeps 15. All
the homes are either oceanfront or just a few steps away from
the sand – all with a low bank access and fantastic views.
Most are in the Nelscott area; one is close to the casino. You’ll
find a variety of goodies, depending on the home: fireplaces,
multiple bedrooms, dishwashers, Jacuzzis, washer/dryers, hot tubs,
cable TV, VCR, barbecues; there’s a loft in one, and another
sprawling home has two apartments. Pets are allowed in some homes
– ask ahead. Each comes with complete kitchens so you’ll
have a home away from home. Most have the seventh night free.
