'Wine Walk' In Oregon Coast Town Buzzes with Activity

(Newport, Oregon) - It’s a month worth of wine, cuisine and song in Newport, along what has been nicknamed Nye Beach’s “Wine Walk” – as NW Third St. contains two wine shops and a wine bar within a block of each other. Village Market & Deli sits at the top of the hill, with its “small but proud wine shop;” Nye Beach Gallery sells fine wines from around the world as well as artwork; and Blu Cork Wine Bar sits at the bottom of the hill with its now-legendary presence.

Both Blu Cork and Nye Beach Gallery feature various events this month, soaking in the presence of Valentine’s Day and other aspects of Newport.

Meanwhile, Village Market & Deli has reopened after taking January off, emerging with a new menu focusing on country comfort foods with a different angle. Cute little names abound to describe this, such as “Grits to Grigio,” “Nashville to Naples,” or “Downhome Dijon.” It’s a heady mix of peasant-meets-upperclass; simple, country cooking from a variety of cultures.

They’ve teamed together skillet fried chicken with polenta or proscuitto with black-eyed peas. There’s a blackened catfish on panino. Artisan bread is served with a variety of dipping sauces, including the same incredible terrines and pates you’ve found there before and at their sister business, Blu Cork Wine Bar.

Village Market is open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday. 741 NW Third Street, Newport. (541) 574-9393.
