Wild Mushroom Cook-Off Takes Over Central Oregon Coast in October
(Lincoln City, Oregon) – A massive, lip-smacking favorite on the central Oregon coast returns on October 11, as Lincoln City once again hosts the 6th Annual Wild Mushroom Cook-Off. Billed as the “flavors of fall,” it happens at the Culinary Center on Highway 101 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
It's where professional chefs from around the Pacific Northwest gather and show off their skills in front of what is now a few hundred people. Each will craft their signature mushroom dishes to a panel of expert judges. Attendees can also take part by voting for their favorite dish, the People's Choice Award.
Admission to the competition is free and tasting samples are available for mere 75 cents each. You'll also find a cooking demonstration, live music, beer, wine, and assorted treats. It is an event that grows heartily each year.
Last year over 400 attended. Winners of the 2013 event were:
In the People's Choice voting, first place was awarded to Chef Ged Aydelott of Pacific City-based Pelican Pub and Brewery for their Wild Mushroom Pie. Second place went to Chef Jason Jobe of Vivian's Restaurant in Lincoln City for their Wild Savory Mushroom Flan. Third place went home with Chef Randy DePorter of Lincoln City's Beach Town Deli for their Wild Mushroom Risotto Cakes
The Lincoln City Culinary Center also hosts a total of four annual cook-offs during the year: delving into the realms of Jambalaya, fish tacos, wild mushrooms and and one for chowder, each featuring some of the best chefs in the Pacific Northwest.
