(Newport, Oregon) - The Oregon Coast Aquarium is again offering its popular animal encounters including sea otters, sea lions, sharks, fish and a giant Pacific octopus. The encounters, offered through September, are designed to allow people to connect with the ocean’s creatures as they learn about them and observe them up close. Visitors will work with Aquarium staff helping to feed the animals and learn about their unique adaptations.
Sea Otter Encounters: Tuesdays through September 29, 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.

Learn about the sea otter’s many adaptations and the challenges these adaptations pose for their caretakers. Sea Lion Encounters: Saturdays through September 15, 1 to 2 p.m.
Visitors age 8 and up learn about the natural history of sea lions from Aquarium staff, prepare a sea lion snack, learn about their basic needs, receive a fishy kiss from Lea, one of the Aquarium’s friendlier pinnipeds and a photo of the experience. $40 members, $45 non-members. Shark and Finned Friends Encounters: Sundays through September 9, 1:30 to 3 p.m.

Visitors age 8 and up watch the care and feeding of sharks and other fish living at the Aquarium. A chance to learn about how sharks are misrepresented throughout history and help prepare and feed the animals in Passages of the Deep. $40 members, $45 non members. Registration required. Octopus Encounter: Sunday, September 2, 10 to 11 a.m.
Visitors to the Oregon Coast Aquarium can learn what’s involved in caring for one of the ocean’s most intelligent creatures, a giant Pacific octopus. Under the supervision and guidance of an aquarist, an octopus encounter offers an opportunity to handle an octopus and watch it eat a special treat. $20 members, $25 non-members.
