| Sand Lake, near Tillamook: no tsunami warnings were issued along the coast. |
(Oregon Coast) - The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported a 4.9 magnitude earthquake off the Oregon coast about 7:53 PST Friday evening. The epicenter was about 255 miles from Yachats, Oregon.
Reports so far indicate no one felt the quake and no tsunami warnings were issued for the Oregon coast, or anywhere else on the west coast of the United States.
BeachConnection.net contacted several coastal residents, including Ian Clayman of Newport and Angi Wildt of Depoe Bay, and no one said they felt anything.

The depth of the quake was about 6.2 miles below the surface, which is considered shallow for an earthquake under the sea. These quakes are common in this area, which is part of the Juan de Fuca Plate.
The Chilean earthquake of late February caused a tsunami scare along Oregon’s coast, as well as the length of the west coast of the U.S. The 8.8 quake in Chile caused a tsunami warning or advisory that day, but nothing was reported except some small damage in California.
No tsunami sirens were activated along the Oregon coast for that event either.
