Special New Year Dinner at Oregon Coast Castle
(Arch
Cape, Oregon) – New Year’s Eve takes an especially glittering
turn this year with another intriguing celebration at a castle on the
north coast. Arch Cape House – the B&B with architecture somewhere
between a castle and a Swiss ski lodge – is hosting its annual New
Year’s Eve dinner party, with gourmet dishes, whimsical themes,
luscious desserts, entertaining conversation, and an always-stunning turn-of-the-year
on the beach that comes complete with a bonfire. (For
a larger New Year's Eve roundup, click here)
It’s a low-key gala that is always memorable, with
B&B guests gathering from different ends of the country in one place,
chatting, mingling and sharing a feast. You get to go outside your usual
boundaries, and experience the subtle thrills of getting to know delightful
strangers in an intimate, joyous setting.

The New Year’s Eve dinner party is $95 per person,
and includes beverages, a multi-course dinner and libations on the beach.
It is only open to in-house guests, unless there are still openings the
week before the event – on December 26. Then, reservations will
be taken for dinner guests who are not staying at the inn.

Things begin at 7 p.m. with a social hour and special drink
concoctions.
At 8 p.m., dinner is served in various courses, prepared
by owner Barbara Dau – a master chef on the north coast.
At 11:15, it’s a short walk to the stunning beaches
of Arch Cape, where a bonfire and midnight kisses await.
Part of the fun here are the themes that come with each
New Year’s Eve celebration at Arch Cape House. One year it was presidents,
another it was places around the world, there was the theme of famous
movie stars, and yet another year featured “A Degenerate Dinner
with F. Scott Fitzgerald.” The themes dictate what dishes are served
and their wacky titles, and they give some guests the opportunity to dress
up accordingly.

Getting into costume is not mandatory by any means, but
the themes do provide extra inspiration for fun. During the Fitzgerald
night, some chose to come in 1920’s outfits.

reunions or large gatherings such as weddings, some rooms can connect

That year, for example, "Echoes of the Jazz Age"
– a 1920's Martini – was served. "The Great Gatsby"
was a dish with bloody roast beef and creamy smashed potatoes, and the
"The Last Tycoon" was a café Brulot with brandy.
In 2003, It was “A night with the Stars,” featuring
the “Grace Kelly” (a crab soufflé) and “The Humphrey
Bogart” (fillet of beef with mushroom ragout), among other things.
