Oregon Coast Microbrews Paired with Continental
Cuisine
 |
| View from Pelican Pub |
(Pacific City, Oregon) – There is no need to drive
cross-country to sample regional cuisine, thanks to one major restaurant
on the north Oregon coast.
Take your taste buds on a culinary tour of the United States
with the Pelican Pub & Brewery’s Fall Brewers Dinner, happening
October 27. After months of research, Executive Chef Pieter Vanden Hogen
and Head Brew Master Darron Welch paired five courses of seasonal cuisine
from different regions of the United States with five beers from Pelican
Pub & Brewery.

Tradewinds
Motel,
Rockaway Beach. All rooms are immaculate and have TV’s, VCR’s
and in-room phones w/ data ports. Oceanfronts have queen bed, a
double hide-a-bed, kitchen, cozy firelog fireplace and private deck.
Both types sleep up to four people. Others are appointed for a two-person
romantic getaway, yet still perfect for those on a budget. Elaborate
oceanfront Jacuzzi suite has two bedrooms, kitchen, double hide-a-bed,
fireplace and private deck, sleeping as many as six. For family
reunions or large gatherings such as weddings, some rooms can connect
to create two-room and three-room suites. Some rooms pet friendly.
523 N. Pacific St., Rockaway Beach. (503) 355-2112 - 1-800-824-0938.

These seasonal plates include such tidbits as cherry glazed,
sage roasted poussin from the Midwest, paired with bottle-conditioned
Saison du Pelican. Black Tamales with mole braised pork, masa and orzo
with Ancho Chile Vinaigrette from the Southwest are paired with Doryman’s
Dark Ale. Dig into Johnny Cakes from New England, paired with MacPelican’s
Scottish Style Ale. Another delicious find is the Colorado lamb chops
with Mountain Mint compote and cider reduction from the Rocky Mountains,
paired with Kiwanda Cream Ale.
Guests
are in for a special treat, as the bottle-conditioned Le Pelican Brun
will be officially released at the dinner itself. Celebrating its release,
the meal appropriately ends with a dessert from the Pacific Northwest
region that has been engineered around this new brew: Le Pelican Brun
Poached Hood River Starkrimsim Pear.
Guests are encouraged to arrive early for a tour of the
brewery, or stay late to sample two recently-released seasonal ales: a
new batch of the Elemental Wet Hop Ale and the draft version of the Grand
Cru de Pelican.

Lincoln
City Vacation Homes
Something for everyone: smaller homes
with a view to a large house that sleeps 15. All are either oceanfront
or just a few steps away – all with a low bank access and
fantastic views. Most are in the Nelscott area; one is close to
the casino. You’ll find a variety of goodies: fireplaces,
multiple bedrooms, dishwashers, Jacuzzis, washer/dryers, hot tubs,
cable TV, VCR, barbecues; there’s a loft in one, and another
sprawling home has two apartments. Pets allowed in some homes
– ask first. Each comes with complete kitchens. Most have
seventh night free. Prices range from winter $85 to summer $230
per night. www.getaway2thecoast.com.
