Is the Oregon Coast Headed for Snow This Weekend? |

Insane Weather on Tap for Oregon Coast

(Oregon Coast) – It’s going to be one cold spell that will hit the Oregon coast and the coast range over the next few days, with the coast range getting some snow and possibly icy roads.
Towns like Seaside, Cannon Beach, Rockaway Beach, Lincoln City and Newport will be out in the cold this weekend, but no snow for the beach towns – not like last year’s major, freak snowstorm that startled yet delighted residents and tourists alike.

There is a cold weather advisory for the Oregon coast, but the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a snow advisory for the coast range mountains and passes for the early part of the week.

On Sunday, the clouds will slowly disappear, but not before some showers will probably hit the coastline before 10 a.m. Northeast winds will be between 9 and 13 mph, and the high temp will be near 43. Sunday night, things begin to chill down considerably, with the low reaching 25 and crystal clear skies helping to let all the warm air just fly away. Winds will help things feel even colder, with gusts as high as 30 mph.
On Monday, Martin Luther King Day, it will be sunny with a high just above freezing, at 39 degrees. East winds will be between 17 and 20 mph.

The NWS said this pattern will last through the first half of the week on the coast, causing the high temps for the day to barely edge above freezing.
“Be sure to take any precautions necessary to prepare for this change to much colder weather,” said the NWS.
But it’s the Oregon coast range that will get the snow, so traveling to and from the coast may get dicey and icy. Showers are expected to taper off on Sunday night, but they bring two to three inches of snow to the roads heading over the coast, such as Highways 26, 18 and 20.
Once
Monday rolls around, things will be sunny with highs near 30, which will
likely mean dry conditions on the roads themselves. It is expected to
be breezy, with an east wind between 26 and 29 mph, with gusts as high
as 37 mph.
With a big freeze headed for Portland, Salem and other valley towns, bringing temperatures down to the teens, this means the first half of the week will be almost balmy by comparison on the Oregon coast.
For a change, Oregon’s beaches will be warmer than the valley towns.
