(Oregon Coast) – Independence Day often officially heralds in summer to the Oregon coast, as it’s the first time for the season that things become almost uncomfortably packed in the rooms and all the no vacancy signs light up.

For lodgings, it’s the mother of all tourism weekends, where many people even book their rooms for next year’s Fourth of July – even as their leaving the lodging the day after the Fourth, a good year ahead of time.

This year, there are a few more openings on the coast than usual, as the economy seems to still affect pocket books. But most expect to still fill up completely. If you head out to the beach without a reservation, last minute rooms may be as hard to find as white caps in a desert.

Some have two- or three-night minimums, so be sure to check for that. Most listed below indicated openings all weekend, but a handful did not have any on Saturday.
